The maintenance box is one of the most overlooked consumables in a color label printing setup. It is a sealed unit that collects waste ink generated during printhead cleaning cycles and routine maintenance operations. When the box reaches capacity the printer will stop printing entirely until it is replaced. Epson ColorWorks printers display an early warning when the box is approaching full, giving you time to order a replacement before it becomes an urgent issue.

Keeping a spare maintenance box on hand is the simplest way to avoid unplanned downtime. When the replacement warning appears, you can swap the box immediately and keep your production run going without waiting on a shipment.
